Hi, my name is Mark and welcome to The Ginger Prints website. As the name might already suggest I was born a ginger in the early 1970s and spent most of my adolescent years growing up with a lot of negativity which was directly pointed at my hair colouring and pale, freckley skin. I was also pretty short for my age and so was an easy target as I was seen as someone quite different from the other kids in my class and year.
It is only in latter years I have come to accept that not only was I born a ginger but I will also die as a ginger too and I must do my best to live as one and unapologetically proud to be one. I would like to think, as time goes on, society on the whole is accepting that different doesn’t necessarily mean less. There appears to be more and more people breaking through as singers, actors and sports people which create positive role models for the rest of the ginger population. We might be in the minority (about 2% of the world’s population) but we know how to make our presence felt and we are not going away anytime soon even if people think our gene is a dying one.
There are lots of advantages and positive aspects of being a ginger and I have been looking at ways in which I could explore these by creating a project or two that reflect these qualities.
Please let me know if you have any ideas or suggestions that you would like adding to this site. It is very much a work in progress and hope you find it of interest whether you are ginger or not.
